Back in South Africa for the third test. It was a wet outfield today and delayed the start of play. It was Dhoni who won the toss and decided to field. Khan started bowling to Smith. A very steady and slowplay for the Proteas but inthe5th over Khan sent the Protean Captain back to the pavilion after he made a score of 6 runs. Amla was the next man in. Amla is a dangerous player. He in anycondition can cause a threat to the Indian bowlers. But the play was stopped due to rain. A very heavyrain forced the umpires to take the lunch as it was 12pm. The play started after lunch and Ishant was the man bowling to Amla. The score was 21/1.
But Alviro Petersen was sent back to the pavilion by Ishant Sharma after a making a score of 21runs. Then came Jacques Kallis. Kallis and Amla played really very well smashing fours in between. Slowly and steadily, Amla finished his fifty. After making a score of fifty-nine, Amla was seny back to the pavilion by a brilliant delivery by Sreesanth. Then came Ab de Villiers. Jaques Kallis under pressure played well and lead South Africa's score past hundred. There was no more breakthrough after lunch and Villiers and Kallis played well and it was time for the tea-break. The players were off the field. After the tea, Kallis lead Proteas' score past 150.
Kallis was in good form playing really well under pressure but Ab de Villiers could not stand on the crease for long and was sent back by Sreesanth after making a score of 26 runs. The day was almost over and the next man in was Ashwell Prince. There was no other breakthrough and Day 1 was over.
The score at the end of Day 1 was --
SA - 232/4 in 72 overs
Kallis - 81
